  • Spicy Honey Mustard Sauce

Posted at 11:50 am by NativeNM, on July 31, 2020

If there ever was a sauce that goes with everything it might be Honey Mustard.  It’s sweet and tangy and a little bit spicy.  It’s best known as a dipping sauce for chicken fingers, but we like to dip veggies, fries and soft pretzels as well.  If you’ve never had pretzels and honey mustard sauce you don’t know what you’re missing.  One of our local sandwich shops “Cheba Hut” have a menu full of creative sandwiches, but what keeps us going back are the soft pretzel bites with honey mustard sauce.  Joe and I found ourselves addicted the first time we ordered them, there’s just something about those salty pretzel bites dipped in tangy honey mustard that tastes so good.  But beyond dipping it’s one of our favorite sandwich spreads and salad dressing.  It’s the versatile sauce that you can use for many different things.  What’s your favorite way to use honey mustard?

You’ll need to assemble mayo, coarse ground Dijon mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper.

Mix together all the ingredients except the honey.

I think the sweetness of the sauce is a matter of taste.  Add a tablespoon of honey at a time until you reach the amount of sweetness you like.  I usually add 3 tablespoons.

Whisk it all together.  If you want to make salad dressing, add 1/4 – 1/3 cup of olive oil and whisk until it is emulsified.

My grilled chicken wrap with grated cheese, lettuce, tomato avocado and a drizzle of honey mustard sauce.

    Pretzel anyone?

    Spicy Honey Mustard Sauce

    1/4 cup Mayonaise
    1/4 cup Coarse Dijon Mustard
3 tablespoons Honey, add more or less to taste
    1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
    1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
    1/8 teaspoon Paprika
    Salt and Pepper to taste

Mix the mayo, Dijon mustard, vinegar, cayenne pepper, paprika together in a small bowl.  Begin to add the honey, a tablespoon at a time until you have the sweetness you desire.  Salt and pepper to taste.

To make Honey Mustard Dressing:  Add 1/4 – 1/3 cup olive oil and whisk until the mixture has emulsified.  Serve over salad and enjoy.

Such a nice flavor combination, isn’t it? Honey mustard is my grandkids favorite!

It’s always been one of my favorites too. It took awhile to get the right combination and increment of ingredients but I think this recipe is worthwhile!

We use a thinner version of a honey mustard sauce on BBQ. Yours sounds perfectly yummy.

Thanks Karen! So is your version considered a Carolina BBQ sauce? It sounds delicious, will have to try that.

Yes, we generally prefer it, especially for pulled pork.

Honey and dijon has always made me happy, but THIS mustard would put a very big grin on my face. What a fabulous condiment and even salad dressing. Great recipe Jan!

Thanks MJ! I’ve always been a honey mustard fan both as a condiment and salad dressing. It can really perk up a sandwich or wrap as well as a dipping sauce.
